DFI Session 5: Collaborative Sites

Making learning visible, now more than ever, is showing it's worth. With moving into online teaching and learning during lockdown. By making learning visible we are able to provide students with engaging tools that they are able to go back to as many times as they need in order to grasp the learning concepts. Visibility also allows whanau to engage in their child's learning by making it accessible and mobile.

Multimodal Teaching sounds exciting to me. I love the idea of having rewindable learning available for students to revisit as they need to.

With the universal design for learning that looks to provide a hook to engage the learners, personalised learning, accelerated achievement and to empower students to be life long learners through giving them the tools they need to learn with greater independence, reminds me of why I became a teacher. And by creating multimodal and multi-textural environments for the learners, I can see this generating increased engagement not only for the learners, but for me as an educator.

I enjoyed learning about Google Sites today as a way of making learning more visible. I can definitely see the benefit of this when trying to engage learners in topics or concepts that we are wanting them to learn.

My next step, is to improve on the quality of flow, and to embed more creating opportunities through the site that learners can participate in.

  1. Kia Ora Michelle, My tip for you in regards to teaching in a digital tech space is to go for the videos or step by step instruction pdfs. I have found students tend to engage more when they have a rewindable resource they can stop and start at their own pace. I know from my experience teaching digital tech skills can come with having to deal with. a wide range of capabilities in a class and having the option for those who want to zoom to zoom and those who need the time can be an important factor in allowing the development of these skills. You could also incorporate the multimodal approach to make it more learner directed with a range of tasks that might meet the standards but also give students the choice in what they create.

    1. Thanks Jacob. I am finding the rewindable learning a huge asset at the moment as we have just moved house and haven't had the internet connected yet! So pre-recorded tutorials have been a god send.
